United Motion Ideas (UMI) was born in Lyon, France, with a bold purpose: to become the leading solution for making decisions on orienting an innovative project.
It all began in 2013. Two men were behind the idea for this startup: Xavier Levesy and Louis Veyret. Using more than a decade of experience in the innovation sector, the two adventurers began working from a single fact: one innovation in five never finds its market. The challenge was set: use the power of the web to facilitate the work of innovators.
The starting gun was fired and 2013 saw the birth of an automated platform that has been subject to repeated improvements ever since. Constantly under development for even greater effectiveness and relevance, the UMI solution is continuously offering more features. At the end of 2015, the prototype for what would later become UMI was launched.
In May 2015, we benefited from the support of BPI France, an interest-free 300,000-euro loan for innovation, which provided the financial backing for the technical development of the UMI platform.
In 2014, Juan David Cruz-Gomez, a young doctoral candidate, joined the team under a study contract. In charge of leading the technological development of the platform, Juan David oversaw optimization of the user experience and design of new features.
One of our greatest challenges was entering the US market. “Challenge accepted!”. In 2016, we discovered new horizons after signing our first US client: Rusheen.
At its core, UMI is a growing network of professionals. Since its launch a great deal of work has been put into communications to develop this international community of experts. Today the UMI network has exceeded 500,000 professionals.
In July 2017, UMI was selected by “Generation French Tech”, an organization that rewards startups for their commercial achievements, impact on the market, or their amounts fundraised, as one of the 1000 startups of tomorrow.
