Issue

Modular datacenters, i.e. installed in mobile units (containers) rather than permanent buildings, considerably help to reduce maintenance costs whilst also having a lower initial investment cost. Their amortization is over 20 years, compared to just 10 for those in permanent buildings.

In addition, modular datacenters are scalable and flexible in the event of expansion or a change of location.

This modular datacenter concept is very developed in the USA and is just now beginning to arrive in Europe. The strong growth in this market is directly linked to the explosion in the internet of things, which requires large volumes of data storage for many companies.

However, the modular datacenters currently available only include basic equipment (air conditioning, fire protection systems and video surveillance) inside the container. Ancillary equipment is outside the container (condensers for cooling, generators, etc.).

They are also not completely modular as a significant amount of engineering is needed to assemble and disassemble them to correctly integrate them with ancillary equipment. This causes additional costs and longer timescales, additional maintenance and is more complex to organize.

Solution

We are developing a new, 100% modular datacenter concept in container format: CUBISTIK.

Unlike existing solutions, all datacenter elements, including ancillary equipment (condensers, generators, etc.) are already installed in the container(s) to avoid excess engineering costs during deployment or when making changes.

CUBISTIK containers will thus enable between 5 to several hundred bays to de deployed without the need for any significant engineering work. Depending on the size, an all-in-one container can store up to 5 bays (+ ancillary equipment). If more than 5 bays are required, multiple containers are assembled together (see graphics).

The plug-and-play system allows several containers to be connected to each other with a few simple movements.
